❤️👉🏼 Nothing eases suffering like human touch. 👈🏼❤️
"There are far more similarities to human touch than there are differences. Because of the need many people feel to reject certain kinds of loving, consenting touch comes from a place of fear". Cameron Barker
We are always looking for inspiration for new graphics for the shop. We were inspired when we walked next door to Room 68 in Provincetown and caught a series of work from Cameron Barker entitled GLORIOUS. The quote above is from a review of Cameron's show at Room68. It reminded us of why so many LGBTQ visit Provincetown. For many, ourselves included, it is the one place they readily hold hands with a same sex partner without fear.
In Cameron's words about the work, he explains; "This series is a celebration of queer intimacy. The circular and linear windows in which these renderings are displayed is a reference to glory holes as well as cracks in stall doors which are spaces of intimacy used to circumvent legal and social persecution. The closeness in these images is not inherently sexualized or gendered, destabilizing the pigeon-holed way queer contact is thought of as penetration centric and hypersexual. The references are collected from where I have been able to find images of queer touch in public space which span from HIV awareness adds to news stories of queer brutality while holding hands or just existing in public. The pink tone comes from a history of queer and genderized categorization and now exists as a reappropriated sign of lgbtqia+ survival. These peep holes exemplify the closeness I know and hold so dearly within this community. They are an acknowledgment of a history that has allowed for me to make this kind of work today. Glorious represents touch, kindness and overall love."
We fell in love with the intimacy of the work and thought it would translate well into a graphic t-shirt. The first tees we are releasing feature the work titled FUSE 1 and feature two pinkies holding onto the other. We felt how apropos for this moment in time, with Valentine's Day a few weeks away and so many of us longing for touch during this long COVID isolation. These t-shirts are now available for preorder and are supporting SAGE.
