John MacConnell is another artist we found through surfing Instagram and loved his figure drawings and watercolors. John is a New York City based figurative artist. His work focuses on people’s interaction with contemporary life and culture, in a minimalist style. He has exhibited in solo and group shows in New York City and group shows internationally.
John has been interviewed about his work in numerous publications, including the Huffington Post. John has his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland, his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and has studied at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam. He formerly taught at Long Island University.
As an illustrator John MacConnell's clients include editorial illustrations published in the pages of Runner's World Magazine, Food Network Magazine, The Village Voice, Advocate Magazine, Playboy Magazine, and Backpacker Magazine. Other clients include paintings and drawings for Abercrombie & Fitch, murals for Google, Covergirl, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and a backdrop for an Alice+Olivia fashion show.
In September 23rds, T, New York Times Style Magazine, John's work was featured in an article The Line of Beauty "Working largely outside the gallery system, a group of illustrators is reviving the discipline and redefining how queer bodies are represented in art."
