Headmaster is the print magazine for the sophisticated man-lover, one who appreciates smart, sexy, and thought-provoking art.
“For men who love men, Headmaster may be the most interesting publication devoted to art, culture, and what it’s like to take a bottle of vodka on a day trip to Brighton Beach.” —VICE
Headmaster is an assignment-based publication challenging artists to investigate themes of masculinity and sexuality. 100% of the work in Headmaster is previously unpublished and assigned by the magazine’s editors, who curate a carefully balanced mix of projects by some of the world’s most provocative artists.
Every issue of Headmaster features a mix of contemporary artists and writers. Past contributors have included such notables as Tony Award-winning actor Alan Cumming, who photographed the men’s rooms of New York; artist/provocateur Slava Mogutin, the first gay Russian to ever be granted political asylum in the US; and novelist Alexander Chee, who penned a story of young lovers at an amateur porn shoot. Other notable contributors have included painter Ross Bleckner, photographers Matt Lambert and Benjamin Fredrickson, Estonian artist Jaanus Samma, and textile/performance artist Liz Collins.
Headmaster's Editors/Publishers are Matthew Lawrence & Jason Tranchida
